Committed to Community, Driven by Service

When I first arrived in Prescott, I knew I wanted to do more than just live here — I wanted to understand this place, its people, and how it all worked. I began by enrolling in Prescott’s Citizen Academy and Police Academy — both of which I highly recommend — and from there, my commitment to community service only grew. Once I retired from full-time work, I dedicated myself to giving back in ways both large and small, volunteering with organizations that serve our elders, children, and those facing sudden trauma. Whether assisting in a preschool classroom, supporting a child through the court system as a CASA, or responding to a crisis call with the Arizona Crisis Team, I’ve always believed that strong communities are built on everyday acts of service and compassion.

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

Supporting the People Who
Make Prescott Home

As my husband Gene and I settled into this community, I looked for ways to lend a helping hand. I found joy and purpose in a wide variety of volunteer roles, each giving me a new perspective on the challenges and strengths of our neighbors:

  • People Who Care – Providing rides and shopping help for seniors and others with limited mobility.

  • Prescott Unified School District – Volunteering as a classroom assistant for preschoolers, kindergartners, and third graders.

  • Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) – Supporting children in dependency court, helping ensure their voices were heard in front of the Honorable Judge Anna Young.

  • Arizona Crisis Team (ACT) – On-call with local police and fire departments, offering emotional and practical support to individuals and families facing sudden trauma.

Each of these roles has deepened my appreciation for the strength and resilience within our community.

From Volunteer to Civic Leader

As the years passed, I became increasingly interested in how our city operates — not just at the surface level, but behind the scenes where decisions are made. This curiosity led me to apply for civic roles where I could serve more directly.

  • Board of Adjustment (Appointed 2020 – Present)
I’ve had the honor of serving on the Board of Adjustment since 2020. While it’s not always easy — you can’t please everyone — I’ve learned to listen carefully, weigh the facts and the law, and strive to make thoughtful, balanced decisions.

  • General Plan Review Committee (Appointed 2022 – 2024)
In response to the City’s call for volunteers to help shape Prescott’s State-mandated General Plan, I applied and was selected to serve. Over the course of 2.5 years, our committee worked closely with City staff and departments to understand current operations and future needs. The result of that collaboration — a draft General Plan — is now with the Council and headed to the voters in November 2025.
